Just in time for a relaxing beach listen or a summer road trip, we’ve got some great new books coming into the store in all genres. Stop by and sample a few!

Mystery

Probably the biggest title coming out next is the final book in the Millenium trilogy, The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet’s Nest. This title is so BIG that we already have a long waiting list and have invited the narrator, Simon Vance, to come to All Ears and celebrate the release. For more information about this event, check out ‘An Evening with Simon Vance’ in our newsletter. But wait, there’s more! Lee Child has just released the newest Jack Reacher adventure 61 Hours and for all of you who loved Scott Turow’s landmark bestseller Presumed Innocent, the sequel for this book Innocent is available now. Other new mysteries include:

Elegy for April – Benjamin Black
Deliver Us from Evil – David Baldacci
9th Judgment – James Patterson
Sizzling Sixteen – Janet Evanovich
Storm Prey – John Sandford
61 Hours – Lee Child
A River in the Sky – Elizabeth Peters
This Body of Death – Elizabeth George
Blue-Eyed Devil – Robert Parker

Fiction

Many of the big fiction authors have come out with new books, just in time for the summer. Whether you are in the mood for romance, humor, or something that will make you cry, we’ve got you covered.

Every Last One – Anna Quindlen
The Double Comfort Safari Club – Alexander McCall Smith

Major Pettigrew’s Last Stand – Helen Simonson
The Last Time I Saw You – Elizabeth Berg

Private Life – Jane Smiley
Island Beneath the Sea – Isabel Allende
Beatrice and Virgil – Yann Martel – This title has been the most controversial in the store. Either customers LOVE it or HATE it – no ambivalence on this one! I just love a controversial book – I’m loading it on my iPod

Non-Fiction

The best word to describe our new releases in Non-Fiction is diverse! For Republicans we have Laura Bush’s memoir Spoken from the Heart (read by the former First Lady). For Democrats we have The Bridge: The Life and Times of Barack Obama. If you want to listen to something funny, try Sarah Silverman’s The Bedwetter: Stories of Courage, Redemption and Pee. Something more serious? Check out Michael Lewis’ book The Big Short: Inside the Doomsday Machine and learn how the US economy was driven off a cliff. Need more options? Here are a few more…

This Time Together: Laughter and Reflection – Carol Burnett
The Shadow Effect – Deepak Chopra
Women Food and God – an Unexpected Path to Almost Everything – Geneen Roth
The Men Who Would be King – Nicole Laporte
The Last Stand – Nathaniel Philbrick
A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Future – Michael J. Fox
Crisis Economics – Nouriel Roubini
Mindfulness Meditation on Pain Relief – Jon Kabat-Zinn

Children’s and Young Adult

The summer is a wonderful time to get your children to listen to more books. And for everyone who has been asking, Yes! We are partnering with Learning Express again this year. For every 5 books your child listens to, he receives $5 off anything at Learning Express. For the preschoolers and toddlers, we’ve added quite a few more titles and also some fun travel journals and puzzles to complement our selection of books from Barefoot Books. The titles are fantastic – vibrant colors, great illustrations - and we have stories about princesses, princes, pirates and magical creatures from Ireland. For the elementary age readers we’ve added a few more series including the Araminta Spookie series (by Angie sage – author of the popular Septimus Heap series) and Alexander McCall Smith’s Harriet Bean books. And if you have a child that loves fairy tales, try the Sisters Grimm series – fractured fairy tales at their best! And for older readers, John Grisham has a new mystery targeted for middle readers, Theodore Boone: Kid Lawyer. Here are some new releases:

The Red Pyramid – Rick Riordan (new series by the author of the Percy Jackson Series)
The Mortal Instruments series – Cassandra Clare
How to Train Your Dragon – Cressida Cowell
The Guardians of Ga’hoole – Kathryn Lasky

Sci-Fi/Fantasy (aka Paranormal Fiction)

Ever since the Twilight series, Vampires and zombies have been finding their way into books for all ages. A sub-genre to this has been to take a classic and add a paranormal twist such as Pride and Prejudice and Zombies. I’ve heard good reviews about Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter by Seth Grahame Smith, but I can’t wait for the summer release of Paul is Undead by Alan Goldsher. As the publisher describes, “Ladies and Gentlemen, it’s time to really meet the Beatles.” Not only does the book include the Fab Four, but Eighth Level Ninja Lord Yoko Ono and England’s greatest zombie hunter, Mick Jagger also make their appearances. Not your cup of blood? Here are some others…

Black Magic Sanction – Kim Harrison
Felix Castor series – Mike Carey – I love this series – great combination of mystery and the supernatural!
From Dead to Worse – Sookie Stackhouse
The Short Second Life of Bree Tanner – Stephenie Meyer
Star Wars: Fate of the Jedi, Backlash – Aaron Allston
Changes – Jim Butcher
Bearing and Hourglass – Piers Anthony

And if you can't decide, please stop by the store. We have more new titles every week. And we’re always happy to make recommendations. Happy Listening!
